Say "I DO" to Hawaiian Island Wedding Planners
2009 MAUI WEDDING OF A LIFETIME
For the past several years, Hawaii Bride & Groom magazine and OC16 have been giving a deserving couple from Hawaii a “Wedding of a Lifetime”. For us, this contest is a lot more than a couple winning a free wedding, it’s about giving back to the people of Hawaii and changing their lives forever.
On June 22, 2009, on behalf of the Maui Wedding Association, Tori Rogers of Hawaiian Island Wedding Planners had the amazing opportunity to plan a Wedding of a Lifetime on Maui for OC16 and Hawaii Bride and Groom Magazine’s contest. It was truly an experience to work with such fantastic Maui professionals and create such a special experience for our Maui couple. Even under the saddest of circumstances, we all pulled together and illustrated the sense of community that uniquely characterizes Maui.

Here is their story they submitted for voting before learning of their win:

November 19, 2009 will make ten
years since the day we said "I do". The same year we got married, two other
family members were married and money wise we just couldn't afford a wedding. We
decided to get married in court. At the time, we just wanted to make sure that
we knew how much we meant to each other so it didn't matter where we said "I
do."
We then pledged to ourselves that if our love could keep us strong for ten whole
years it would be worth every year waiting and every penny spent. I would be
lying if I said life was perfect. We had our share of ups and downs like any
normal couple, but with the help of our family and friends we made it this far.
We knew that forever was in our books so we decided to start planning our vow
renewal for this November.
January 8, 2007 my husband was diagnosed with cancer. Wow, another test for us
to pass. He was doing good. Never completely cured but he is strong. So we
continued planning despite the cancer.
But Christmas day 2008 the doctors announced that there was no more treatments
that could be done for my husband and that there is a possibility I could lose
him.
It was like the whole world just caved in. Our wedding vow renewal meant the
world to the both us because ten years ago we said our vows with only our
witnesses by our side. This year we were supposed to say them again proudly in
front of our entire family and friends.
But because of the medical bills it just seems impossible to make all this come
true. I have not given up. We both have faith in the Lord, and we have a lot of
family and friends that keep praying for George. If we could finally have the
wedding of our dreams it would be worth more then just ten years it would be
worth a lifetime...
